1) Don’t even go near the edge of the pit – don’t entertain it, because the edges can crumble easily and suck you in.
2) It is harder to climb out than it is to keep a safe distance,
which is why it’s important to 𝗯𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱 and stay on guard.
Here are the 3 clues to look out for when self-pity is bubbling up so you can avoid the nasty pit as much as possible.
Consider if you’re passing the responsibility to others… Are you blaming everyone, including fate? Or maybe you’re thinking, things are just out right bad?
Next, explore these complex emotions. Are you feeling pessimism, frustration, overwhelmed, insecurity, disappointment, guilt, doubt, and/or worry?
Now, pay attention to these thoughts. Maybe they sound something like this…
“Bad things happen to me”
“I just always screw up”
“That’s just the way it is”
“Why am I so stupid”
“The world is just a bad place, I might as well accept it”
The absolute best way to stay clear of the nasty trap of self-pity is to always be on guard so you can actively prevent self-pity before it happens!
