(The main differences between Life & Mindset Coaching and Therapy)
I honestly only thought people who hired Life & Mindset Coaches were bigtime celebrities or top executives of Fortune 500 companies.
I was wrong.
The reality is that more and more people are hiring coaches at different stages of life, especially those who are ambitious, have a big vision for their life and business … and generally want to make a big impact.
My career and entrepreneurial journey have taken some interesting turns and twists, but at the core I was always helping people, asking deep questions, and seeing their potential … but I didn’t realize that I could create a business and get paid around what I do naturally!
In fact, when I made the decision to become a Life & Mindset Coach it was then I remembered I originally wanted to study psychology in college and instead went into marketing and advertising. Wild huh?!
The word psychology was formed combining the Greek word psychē (meaning soul) with logia, (which is derived from the Greek word logos meaning “speech or reason”). With this early definition, psychology was described as the “knowledge of the soul.”
In more modern times, psychology is more concerned with the science or study of the mind and behavior, where much of talk and behavioral therapy focus.
As I dug deeper into my coaching certifications, what helped me have a clearer delineation between coaching and therapy was this rule of thumb:
For the sake of being concise, I will use the term “therapy” for everyone considered in the psychology realm, this includes “counselor”, “therapist”, “psychotherapist”, or “psychologist”.
A therapist helps clients/patients in areas such as:
In general, therapists are PAST and PRESENT FOCUSED.
While a therapist may work with clients to set goals and make changes, primarily clients seek therapy to help with healing trauma, treating mental illness, overcoming addiction or treating addiction.
A life coach can use therapeutic and psychological tools to help people:
In general, life and mindset coaches are PRESENT and FUTURE FOCUSED.
Life coaches help their clients explore their past only as a means of understanding their current life experience and belief systems. The primary goal is to help a client look at where they are now, where they want to be, and how to get from point A to point B.
The best decision I made was getting certified in powerful tools to help bring my coaching business up a few notches.
I got certified in NLP, Hypnotherapy, T.I.M.E. Techniques, Energy Modalities, and other work that creates profound changes and quicker shifts within my clients.
A certified coach is trained specifically to help you overcome things in your life that might have held you back. A good life coach knows how to dig deep into your subconscious mind to help you uncover what’s happening under the surface.
If someone has an issue in their life – whether it’s work, business, relationships or family – the problem usually has very little to do with the situation itself. It actually has to do with the thought patterns, beliefs, and emotions that are happening inside and consequently is manifesting as a problem in your outer world.
Subconsciously we are always creating our own life. When we uplevel and upgrade what is happening on the deeper subconscious, we will effortlessly create a more abundant life with ease!
I work with my clients from the inside-out, helping them direct their life from their proactive internal compass instead of their reactive external compass.
I also have a unique approach of combining the practical with the spiritual. This provides my clients with more aligned and expedited results. An empath to the core, I’ve been called a dot connector, root excavator and pattern breaker.
I have a variety of ways you can work with me to help you be an Abundantly Successful leader in your business and career!
